VELINGRAD SPA RESORT
Book NowVelingrad is a well-known spa and climatic resort in South Bulgaria. It is located in one of the most picturesque part of The Rhodope Mountains - the Chepin valley. The resort's mineral water well up from 70 springs.
The abundance of mineral waters, the modern spa, resort facilities, mild climate and wonderful natural conditions, offers recreation to over 200 000 people here every year.
Climate: The sunny days come up to 74% annually. Fogs are a rare phenomenon, the average January temperature is 1.8`C and the July do not rise above 18.7oC. Summer is cool, winter is mild and autumn is warm and pleasant. In winter there are wonderful conditions for skiing There are no strong winds in this region.
Mineral waters: The abundance of mineral waters is the most generous gift of nature to this town. Тhe waters temperature being 28 C-86 C.
There are six thermal mineral deposits known - Chepino, Ludjene 1, Ludjene 2, Kamenitza, Draginovo and Varvarski Bani. The total number of mineral springs is about 70. Velingrads mineral water is distinguished for its ingredients, which combine the curing properties of the local mineral waters of Hissarya, Banya and the Narechen spa resorts.
Тhe resort is specialized mostly in the medical treatment of a number of pulmonary diseases, various orthopedic disorders as well as neurological and gynecological diseases, including sterility, kidney indisposition, liver diseases and gastrointestinal diseases.
The town is prominent with the Kleptuza phenomenon. Kleptuza is the biggest Karst spring in Bulgaria. Every second it pours out 570 liters of icy water, creating a couple of beautiful lakes that are flowing into the Chepinska River .
The Saint Spas site is located in Chepino, near the mineral springs. Believers in the saint of health visit it from time immemorial. People come here with hope of healing on Saint Spas Day.
Art enthusiasts can see the ethnographic display at the local Historic museum in Kamenitza, the permanent representative exhibition of traditional and modern crafts and arts at the Business & Information Centre, and the local artists works exposed at the Art Gallery. The local forests and game-breeding enterprises offer excellent opportunities for development of hunting and fishing tourism.
